The "Borrowers" of the title are a family of tiny people who live in the walls and under the floorboards in the homes of "normal-sized" humans; they earn their by "borrowing" the household items (string, food crumbs, buttons, etc.) needed to furnish their tiny hiding places and provide their meals. The little Clock family lives happily undisturbed in the home of an aged aunt, but when the aunt dies and her will is stolen by an unscrupulous lawyer (John Goodman), the Clocks face eviction and the frightening hazards of the outside world. Under the ingenious direction of Peter Hewitt, this simple, straightforward movie mixes comedy, adventure, and suspense with some of the cleverest special effects you've ever seen, taking full advantage of effects technologies to immerse you in the world of the tiny people. A climactic chase scene in a milk-bottling plant is a visual tour de force, and the movie's smart and dazzling enough to entertain parents and children alike.  Rating:  - CaptivatingI'm always looking for good movies for my grandchildren to watch. I had never heard of this movie before but the review sounded good. When I informed my grandchildren (ages 6 and 9) I had some new movies, they asked to see them. I gave them a choice of three movies and when they spotted The Borrowers, they excitedly snatched it from my hand. It is a very good family movie. Rating:  - Too scary for childen!I read the book "The Borrowers" as a young girl and was delighted to find this movie. But this movie scared me big time, it freeked me out even more than the Harry Potter movies! it was scarier and creapier.It is not a bit like the wonderful book by Mary Norton,(with the exeption of the title and the Borrower's names)and was also a BIG disapintment. The charitors are lame, and so is the storyline. The book was funny and great, and even appriate for 2 year olds, But this movie is nothing but SAD,SCARY, ...
