After befriending a lonely old woman (Jessica Tandy), Bates hears the story of a lifelong friendship between two other women (Mary Stuary Masterson and Mary-Louise Parker, seen in flashback) who once ran a cafe in town against many personal odds. The tale inspires Bates to take further command over her life, and there director Jon Avnet (Up Close and Personal), in his first feature, has fun with the film. Bates develops a real attitude toward her thickheaded spouse at home and some uppity girls in a parking lot, but dignity is generally the key to Avnet's approach with the story's crucial relationships.  Rating:  - Funny and entertainingThere is some questionable material but...over all it was entertaining. My wife enjoyed it more then I did. It was ok. Fried Green Tomatoes is the best and it makes me happy to give it to my loving wife so guys buy it and give it to a woman who you think is special and she would feel how special she is if she recieves this movie as a gift. Rating:  - Heartwarming.Fried Green Tomatoes starring Kathy Bates and Jessica Tandy is definitely a chick flick to say the least. I like this weepy drama but this film is a little too long and depressing. I do appreciate the great acting and friendship concept, watch this film with a best friend. Rent it sometime. Rating: - love itthis is absolutely my favourite movie, of all time !! it has made me laugh, cry, and share in the triumphs and losses of the many delightful characters moving through the story. outstanding perfommances all around, wonderful story, marvelous plot. a movie to be treasured, and watched many, many times. if you've ever had a true friend, a must watch.
