Editorial Review: Album Description: 2008 reissue of the 1986 album, Master of Puppets by Metallica which was ranked eighth on the list of the biggest selling groups in history, and one of the most influential bands in music. Metallica proved its metal with this groundbreaking album and it was hailed as a masterpiece by critics far outside Heavy Metal's core audience. Master Of Puppets sold over half a million copies at its time of release without any major video/radio airplay, making it the band s first record to be certified Gold by the RIAA. It was the last album the band recorded with bass player Cliff Burton before his death later that year. Amazon.com essential recording: One of the defining albums of thrash metal, Master of Puppets is arguably Metallica's best album (as well as their last with bassist Cliff Burton). Focusing on the concept of power and abuses thereof, this is a collection of complex, intelligent music, played at about a hundred miles an hour. Not that these are short songs; this eight-song album clocks in at over an hour, which makes it all the more impressive that not one moment on this recording is boring. In tackling various approaches to their subject, Metallica is insightful lyrically as well as musically: "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" is from the point of view of an institutionalized inmate and "Disposable Heroes" is the perspective of a soldier. If all you've heard of Metallica is what's been on the radio recently, check this one out. You're in for a surprise. --Genevieve Williams Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - MASTER OF NOTHINGI'm not a metal head - but am diversified in my musical taste - Nothing Metallica has done can compare to the Sandman album. This one is ok but all you do is compare it to sandman - thats all i have to say Rating: - Thank god for ST ANGER and DEATH MAGNEICWhy is this album highly praised? Was it because the movie OLD SCHOOL had it in the background? maybe so.Metallica sucks. The only decent albums they have are load and reload and their masterpiece ST anger. Their first 5 albums are really bad. Rating: - It's Master of Puppets...buy it.Why buy it? - so you can understand why Metallica received negative reviews about Load, ReLoad & St. Anger - so you can hear the roots of Death Magnetic - because of Kirk's relentless shredding - James' pain forced out in Sanitarium, Heroes, Puppets, Battery... - Cliff's last recording - Lars at 100 mph vs. 70 today - it's MASTER OF PUPPETS, arguably one of the greatest metal albums of all time. "If you own it, you'll never be able to explain. ... Read More Rating: - Hard and powerfullVery much like most of the old 80's metallica's cd's Are good. I gave this cd a 5 star. Excellent bass all the way. Brutal vocals and machine gun gutiar sounds. Like battery the best. Other great songs on here like master of the puppets leper massiah. Trash at it's best. Rating: - Yep definently one of my tops!!!I love the metal in this album!!! I just gotta say that this is just one of the best Metallica albums ive ever listen to.
