Amazon.com Review: Still made in the village of Ibach, Switzerland, Swiss Army knives have been known for their quality and craftsmanship since they were first introduced over 100 years ago. Easy to carry along in a pocket, glove compartment, tool box, or boat, the Tinker is excellent for impromptu repairs. The 3-1/2-inch-long knife holds 17 tools in its traditional, red plastic casing. They include: large and small knife blades; a can opener with 3mm screwdriver; a bottle cap lifter with 6mm screwdriver and a wire stripper; scissors; a reamer with sewing eye; a Phillips screwdriver; pliers with a wire cutter/crimper; a multi-purpose hook; tweezers; a toothpick; and a key ring. All blades and tools are made of first-class, stainless steel (except for the plastic toothpick). Tools are separated by rust-proof aluminum alloy, while durable brass rivets and bushings hold knife layers together. This Swiss Army knife is covered by a full, lifetime warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde Amazon.com Product Description: From the renowned company that created the Swiss Army Knife a century ago comes the Deluxe Tinker, a complete set of tools for campers, hikers, boy scouts, and just about everyone else. About Swiss Army Knives In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility. ![]() Rating: - A beader's friend.Having had a "Swiss Champ" and lost it, I can say that this knife does most of what the champ does, without the bulk. I make jewelry, and this little tool is excellent for quick stripping of old pieces or last minute tweaks just before a piece goes into the "done" pile. My only regret is that there aren't any wire cutters on it. Otherwise, it's perfect for my needs. Rating: - Best pocket knife on the marketI have owned several SAK, but this is by far the best. All of the tools on the deluxe tinker are useful, and although a little heavy, it can very easily be carried as an everyday pocket knife. The first deluxe tinker was a gift from my wife. I had ask for a super tinker, but at the urging of our 6 year old son she bought the deluxe. My first thought was I will never use the pliers...there're to small to be of any use and just make the knife bigger and heavier. Now I know, the pliers are what makes ... Read More Rating: - Victorinox Deluxe TinkerLove the combo scissor and pliers. This is the only combo with these two tools I could find that wasn't really big or fat. Worth the extra cost over the regular Tinker. Rating: - no pocket should be without itI have been using this knife for ten solid years now and my only regret is when I forget to bring it with me. I often refer to the Victorinox S.A. Deluxe Tinker as my third hand(as do other reviewers) and it is treated as such. I have used every tool on this knife and they all have withstood quite a bit of abuse, -and still work perfectly. I do not need to remind owners of this knife about often you hear the phrase, "hey can I borrow your knife?" and they are soon envious that they do not own one. ... Read More Rating: - Great Pocket ToolSince purchasing my first Victorinox knife last year, I've become a fan. The fit and finish on these is excellent, and they are durable, useful tools. The Deluxe Tinker has a very useful tool set, and is still easily pocketable. The only thing that I'd change on it, would be the addition of "Plus" scales(for the pen), and I prefer the in line Phillip screwdriver on my Explorer (as opposed to the Phillips on the reverse of the Deluxe Tinker). Still, the Deluxe Tinker is hard to beat if you're looking ... Read More Browse for similar items by category:
