However, don't expect great results in larger size pots. I think one probe covers a 10 inch pot pretty well. So I did some research for alternatives. The positive review of this self-watering probes led me to purchasing this item. They arrived within a few days after my order and are easy to use. All you have to do is to soak them in water for 15 minutes then put them into the soil and leave the water hose in a water container. The one thing to watch out is the water level. It should not be higher than the plant. I tested them for a few days before my trip and refilled the water tank before leaving home for my trip. Every single plant survived and I found 7 new big tomatoes when I came home the other day (The flowers were blooming when I left). I am very happy I purchased this item and would highly recommend it. Rating: - Works as advertised, saved plants while on vacation.We just returned from a 10-day vacation, leaving 7 plants and containers to the care of 10 spikes. Not only did all plants (indoors and out) survive during warm July weather, several showed better growth than with hand watering. The process to "start" and install the spikes is clearly described, and it's comforting to know that the spikes can be rehabilitated after extended use. We have left most in place as a convenience. Pay attention to the pot size guidelines -- we have four spikes in the largest container, a 24" herb pot. These are highly recommended!
