Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Microsoft LifeCame VX-3000
This is my third Microsoft LifeCam. We bought one for each of our kids in the last two years and we love them! Great price, great value!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - another great hardware device from Microsoft
This webcam works great. It was easy to install and very easy to operate. I have never been dissapointed by any of Microsoft's hardware devices.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Worth it's cost
This camera is certainly not the nicest out there, but it does the trick for around $30. Picture is decent.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Using with XP 4 stars. Using with Linux 0 stars.
I purchased the Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 Pack which contained two cameras. One was for me and one for family who were visiting from out of town. My visitors had their laptop with them so I offered to install it for them. On their laptop, which runs Windows XP Home, the install went fine with no major problems.

The problems set in when I tried to install the camera on my desktop computer. I run Ubuntu Linux and the camera will not work with it. I spent about four hours searching through tech support forums and trying different suggested fixes, but in the end it just will not work. I should have known better than to try using a Microsoft hardware product with an Open Source Operating System - Ubuntu. In my research several people suggested switching to a Logitech camera and related that they were able to easily use them with all different Linux flavored OS's to include Ubuntu. Now I just have to find a friend who runs Windows XP that I can give the VX-3000.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Not worth the Trouble
I purchased four of these for different relatives for Christmas, each was installed correctly, and each had a host of different problems. They'll display a video stream to the person's own computer, but not to anothers. The furthest we got was the audio working through Messenger, but no video.

There were multiple problems, and in a quick glance around the web I see Microsoft doesn't have an answer to much of it. I'll keep tinkering with it, but Microsoft really should have gotten rid of the kinks before mass-producing this item. Zero stars.
