Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A must have for jerky lovers!!!
My hubby loves jerky but the price didn't allow for much buying. I got him the Nesco for Christmas. It was his fav gift. Next day I marinated 3lbs of 1/4' sliced round steak. After marinating for 12hrs I loaded up the Nesco!! In 5hrs we had the best jerky. Clean up looked like it would be rough but amazing enough, a good soak in hot dishwater and it nearly cleaned itself. The only improvement I could see on the Nesco was having an on/off switch. You have to unplug it to turn it off.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - No Complaints
This is my first food dehydrator and so far I absolutely love it. I've even maxed out on the add on trays. It is quiet and doesn't put out too much heat. I've seen many complaints about it not having an on/off switch. That is such a minor thing. I have mainly done fruits and fruit rollups. I can say that using the food dehydrator will not save me money versus buying things in the store (I cannot comment in that regard on jerky though). But home made is so much healthier, no preservatives.

Additionally, as some other reviews have mentioned this is not for someone that doesn't really enjoy cooking and is a bit on the lazy side. There is prep work if you want things to come out nicely. But if you love to cook and be in the kitchen like me and love dried foods but what things healthier than store bought this would be a great buy.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Nesco FD-75PR dehydrator review from a beginner.
I've never owned or used a dehydrator before now. I asked a friend who's father owns one to ask about his and he recommended the Nesco company. I ended up reading millions of reviews for several days before committing to one. I chose this one because it was more watts than others in the price range and I can control the temperature and the good reviews on several websites seemed to be good. I bought it from Amazon. A trip to the hardware store solved the problem with no timer. I have one of those little outlet adapters to turn the thing off when I want. I couldn't be happier with this model. I'm a total beginner and this thing rocks. it hasn't been off since xmas. raw food has just got so easy. I'm sure there are other great dehydrators for the price, but I'm totally stoked on this one.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - solid
This is our first dehydrator, so we don't have any relative data to work with.

The unit seems pretty good, although living at high altitude with relative humidity routinely in the 20-40% range makes things easier.

We've followed the recipes for fruit leather and jerky (using strips of steak). Everything has been great. Our electric bill has increased, predictably, but we enjoy making foodstuffs with precursors of known quality (in contrast to commercial jerky).

If you are worried about reproducibility and are considering the more expensive models, opt for a analog/digital socket timer available at Home Depot. Its not worth paying double for something that is likely to fail, IMO.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Perfect for our needs
This dehydrator is a huge step up from our cheap-o previous dehydrator. No rotation of trays is a real advantage, and the ability to expand with extra trays (which I intend to do before next drying season) is a solid plus. The only minus (and the sole cause of my 4-star rating instead of 5) is that after drying jerky with the supplied spice package, cleanup of the trays took forever. But that may be due more to the jerky spices and process than to the design of the dehydrator. We used it this year extensively for drying apples, and for that, it was perfect.
