Well i started thinking about the chicken jerky that i was feeding them and thought i could make it myself healthier & cheaper. I researched for months and almost got the Excalibur model but they are so $$$! So i read the reviews here & thought i would try it. I am soooo glad i did. I love this machine. I use it EVERY weekend. So far i have only made jerky for hubby & dogs but they just love it. I buy the meats in bulk when they go on sale. I also bought the jerky gun. Works great! You wont be disappointed! Rating: - Awesome Food DehydratorWe purchased this dehydrator specifically to make chicken (and other meat) jerky for our dogs, as we have already lost one dog due to feeding the jerky that is made in China. Also I feel much better knowing what is going into their jerky treats, which is meat only, no preservatives. We make a batch about every 2 weeks, and the dogs absolutely love it!! And the best thing is knowing there is no melamine in it! We have sliced chicken breast, wild turkey, venison, and pork, into about 1/4 inch strips, then place it in the dehydrator, and turn it on. Start it around 10 am, and the jerky is done in about 8 hours, depending on temperature and humidity. We have also used for drying fruit, and making fruit leather. Awesome, and the dogs also love the banana chips, and apple slices. Very nice product, and it works great! Much better than the ronco one we had years ago, and less expensive. Please, if your dog loves jerky like mine, don't buy the stuff in the stores(about 95% of them are made in china), buy this instead, and it will pay for itself in a very short time, and you know what you are giving your dog is safe. Also recommend buying a recipe book, does come with a few recipes, but I like to try different things. I would definitely recommend this and you should buy the extra trays, too if you plan on doing more than like 4 pounds of meat at a time. . .LOVE IT!!!!! Rating: - As advertisedI bought and use this primarily for making beef jerky as snacks for me and my dogs. It works as advertised and is well worth the money. I have had it for a year with no problems whatsoever and have used it close to 20 times. For jerky, I suggest drying it an hour or two less than they suggest. I like to cut the meat a little thick and leave it chewy rather than crispy. The best spices to use are "Mrs. Dash's" -- lots of flavor and no MSG. I put the trays in the dishwasher and use the "quick wash" setting. That usually gets everything off though sometimes I have to manually clean a few spots. Rating: - Highly recommend!I bought Nesco Food Dehydrator about 3 months ago and very happy with it. It serves the purpose for the price I paid. If it would come with Timer and OFF button it would be a big plus but I guess it would cost more. So when it's running you have to be alert. Other than that this is a great product. |
