Rating: - Kindle Reader a dreamI recently took my Kindle reader to Arizona for the holidays. It was wonderful not having to bring several books with me. I completed three books on the Kindle during my trip. It was so easy to use and read, even in bed. Great product. Rating: - Yeah, Its Flawed...But I Love ItThe Kindle has changed my reading habits tremendously. After dealing with the initial disappointment with the flaws that others have written about, and spilling coffee on it on the 2nd day that I owned it (it dried out after 2 days.... it works), I adjusted quite well to its quirks and absolutely love this toy. It has absolutely changed my reading habits. The most important thing for me is the ability to change the fonts. This allows me to read while exercising on the elliptical each morning on the gym. I've never been able to read a book or magazine on the elliptical because of the combination of motion and small print.... but the kindle easily changes that. That means an additional 3 hours of reading a week. Those 3 hours are enough to get me hooked to keep reading when I get home. A second great feature is the ability to try a sample of a book before purchasing. When browsing a bookstore, you might have the time to read 3 or 4 pages, but with the kindle, you have a number of pages, somtimes a chapter or 2 that you can read it any time you want. If not now, you can come back to reading it later. Try that in a bookstore. I've found some very interesting books because of this feature. Also, love the lookup feature. Words that I think I know, I can get a more certain definition of; and words I don't know, I can get a first time understanding of. In a regular book, I would skip over the word and not learn anything. There are real design flaws (like the difficulty of picking the kindle up without changing the page backwards or forwards), but I say, So What? It's worth it. (Having said that, I will purchase the revised edition when it comes out.) But for now I feel like I've made a great investment in my well-being with this purchase. Have had it for several months now and am so happy that I bought it. Rating: - Great great product!I got my Kindle for Christmas. So far I love it. Fantastic product! I ride the bus to/from work and my 30 minutes are spent reading on Kindle. No messy papers that are difficult to manage on the bus or in bed for that matter. I am a quick reader so I tend to go through books rather quickly and am impatient for them to arrive in the mail from amazon.com, the library is usually out of what I want to read so this is total instant gratification, I think of a a book and PUFF it appears on Kindle. LOVE IT! Thank you for this product. Rating: - Almost perfect....I've had the Kindle for about 3 months and read mostly books (the NYTimes once in a while). There are a few annoyances but none of them are big enough to say the device isn't great. I'll list my favorite features and then the few annoyances. PROS 1. Quickly download books - leaving the house and I realized that I had finished my book the night before. Bought a book I was meaning to read and by the time I was at the subway (2 min walk), the book was on the Kindle. Same thing for the New York Times 2. Have multiple books on one device. Sometimes I alternate between two books which the Kindle is perfect for. It's also nice to have a few books so that way when you finish one, you have the other one with you - especially great for traveling. 3. Simple to carry; perfect for one-handed reading on the subway. 4. Clear, easy to read text. 5. Great battery life; just leave the wireless off except when you need it. CONS 1. I miss having the book in my hand and knowing how big it is and how much I have left. I am now more aware of the number of pages when buying a book and I am getting used to the progress bar on the bottom of the Kindle. 2. The next page button is easy to accidentally press but I am already used to it. Just turn the Kindle off if on the move. 3. Difficult to flip back in a book. I do not have a good memory and I often flip back in a book to refresh my memory. This is not easy to do with the Kindle. I'm sure by bookmarking a page or by searching I can easily do this but I havent adjusted yet. Overall, the Kindle is awesome. I want everyone to get one so that all the books I want to read will have a Kindle version. I'm always buying new gadgets and toys for myself and I'd say the Kindle is one of the best I've bought in a long time. If you like to read, get a Kindle. Rating: - Amazing! But be careful with the "wireless"...This device is wonderful, I first heard about it watching the Oprah show and, being a reader by heart, thought it was awesome. My husband surprised me this Christmas with my Kindle and I just love it! The feature I could not wait to try was the wireless downloading of books... you can imagine my frustration when after several tries and not understanding why I did not have any "bars" in my Kindle, I found out via costumer service that I could not use the wireless feature in my area because there were no Sprint towers nearby...unless I was willing to travel 4.5 hours to Oklahoma City to download a book!!! OK... I live in the Panhandle, but you could imagine that having all kinds of cellphone service we would be able to get the service!! but no...Please Amazon, consider us soon! I kind of recall the word "satellite" during the Oprah show, if that was the case...well, not so true! But the device is, as I said, awesome! |
