Rating:  - Engineer should be firedPaul Potts has a great voice and with more training and practice, he could be an even better performer. I like Paul--he has potential. Unfortunately, the engineers who are in charge of the sound on this CD put together what sounds like a compressed, flat dud of a CD. Sure, it has the clarity from the wonders of modern recording, but they managed to suck the life right out of this recording. Instead of capturing the softness, the loudness, the intensity of the musicians and voices, where we should have a *dynamic* sounding CD, that can naturally inspire the listeners, we have one big, flat sound with a couple of pathetic *artificial* adjustments in volume. When people sing, or play instruments, they naturally go from a soft sound, to a loud sound when their inner being tells them to. We don't need some hack in the studio taking that artistry from the artists. If I wanted a flat recording, I would have gone with MP3s. If I wanted compression, I would have gone with MP3s. It's garbage like this that's made me given up on modern music CDs. It has nothing to do with Paul Potts, but the engineers who no longer have a clue what good sound is all about, and the non-music loving executives who in many cases are making them do this. The record companies say they're losing money. Good. They've lost major music buyers like myself, and I would be ecstatic if they went out of business. Let the music and sound lovers be in charge again. And Paul, smile on your next CD. Rating:  - What an amazing voice! Must buy for music loversAt first I was skeptical. Then I was hesitant. Then all the other excuses came to mind why I should not buy the CD. But then logic took over and I remembered how good he sang Nessun Dorma. I decided to get the CD and I never regretted it. My wife actually took the CD for herself and we fight for who gets to keep it! My favorite song is his version of O holy night. I am just amazed at the power, clarity and beauty of this Welshman's voice. A humble, kind man who I am waiting for more of his releases! Paul Potts is my new favorite Opera singer. Andrea Bochelli is too Nasal. Pavaroti to grandiose. Poll Potts is sublime...or as everyone puts it...a new polished diamond in the rough. Rating: - so he's not perfect so whatThis man was given a gift.Those of you who think he needs refinement need to try to sing like him. He brings tears to the eyes of someone who can appreciate music, trained or not. Get a life jealousy will get you no where. he is great. Rating: - Simply wow!A friend sent me the YouTube segment of Paul winning the 'Britain's Got Talent' show and I knew I wanted to hear more. I am not a major fan of opera music but I like it now and then and this cd by Paul is definitely one I will listen to often. I hope he does more. Rating:  - Disappointing Debut AlbumWhat were they thinking to put out an album like this from the man who wants to sing opera? This is an odd assortment of songs with only Nessun Dorma from opera. And what's with singing pop songs in Italian? Did they not have enough opera songs that Paul was good at so that they had to take other songs that he knew and make them sound like opera? Then to include the hymns (O Holy Night and Silent Night), which Paul does okay with, but have been done far better by many singers. The worst stinker on the album is the Spanish version of My Way. Also Paul has an interesting way of pronouncing MUSIC. He sings "Moo-Sick", rather that "Mew-Sick" as most of us say it in the song Music of the Night. Paul has a way of going deep into the soul (or something like that) and bringing people to tears with his songs. (Yes, me too.) He is not the best singer, but with that way of getting to people in a very deep way, he will succeed. Give the man 10 stars, but this recording doesn't rate much more than 3 or 4. It's a shame and I truly hope this is not the "one chance" for Paul Potts to shine. I honestly believe he will shine if they do a good job on future albums. |
