Rating: - Good scans at a reasonalble priceI bought this scanner to use for a biographical and history project. I wanted to make archival quality scans of photos and documents with historical significance. It has been easy to use and reliable. Rating: - Epson Scanner, some problems, but very pleased overall.I purchase this mainly to scan negatives. I did a lot of research on this scanner prior to purchasing. One problem I've had so far is a conflict between my other Epson all-n-one. (I have never had any real problems w/Epson products) However, after contacting tech support the problem was solved very quickly. The machine itself appears to be well built except for the slide/negative holders that are very flimsy and not real user friendly. However, the results from the scanner w/the negatives are excellent. The scanner is much faster than my previous scanner. So all in all I give the scanner very good marks. Rating: - Good Scanner but Beware Software!!I just puchased this scanner and over the New Year's holiday, while watching bowl games, scanned over 700 negatives into computer. The LED lighting is what makes this a relatively fast consumer-grade scanner. I installed it on Windows Vista x64 with no trouble and got it working right away, BUT the included Adobe Photoshop Elements v4.0 softwre would not install. WHY is Epson saying this is Vista-compatible when a vital piece of software, and one of the reasons for buying this "package", will not work?? I contacted Epson, who told me to contact Adobe. I called Adobe and finally talked to a Customer Service Supervisor ("Alan" in India) who stated "Adobe does not support Photoshop Elements ver 4.0 that is bundled with the Epson V500 Scanner. We recommend that you purchase a retail version of Photoshop Elements." How is that for bait-and-switch? This product scenario seems ripe to me for a class-action lawsuit that all software makers should worry about - Selling outdated software with your product and claiming false compatibility, all to get the end-user to spend more money. I am going to file a formal complaint with both my State Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission about this product against Epson. I would also be happy to take the lead in a class-action lawsuit as the principal aggreved party. Rating: - A fantastic machineThe learning curve is fast and this offers many features that are very impressive. As for color negatives, there is no settings for type or nature of the film and it scans them as well as any other machine that I have used. Quick and simple to use as a film scanner as well as a PDF scanner and other functions. The only limit is that it scans only 35mm or 120 film sizes. Rating: - NWK Plugged in easily and worked - at least under XP. I've used it to scan both prints (color and B&W) and slides. It could be faster but possibly not for this good price. Included PS Elements has worked well. The autofix feature does a good job most of the time. |
