Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Penelope
A great message given with an exceptional story and cast. When wealthy young ladies parents try to find her a husband there is only one catch, she has the nose of a pig, literally. This cute almost fairytale story is a romantic look at what would happen if in fact a typical NY baby was cursed by a wicked witch today. The cast includes Christina Ricci, James McAvoy, Catherine O'Hara, and Reese Witherspoon. The story unfolds telling us how the curse on the family began and shows some of what Penelope endured as a child. Then we get to see her life as an adult and how she copes with it daily. Most of her time is spent in her room, but when one of her suiters seems genuinely interested in her and shows her the outdoors she starts to brave it on her own. Good quality DVD with good replayability. This is a family friendly movie. If you enjoyed this, catch "Legally Blonde".

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Cute Modern Fairytale
Plot: A modern romantic tale about a young aristocratic heiress born under a curse that can only be broken when she finds true love with "one who will love her faithfully."

This was a cute movie and I enjoyed it a lot. It is something the whole family can watch. The only thing that might be disturbing is in the beginning when a servant commits suicide. It goes by quickly and the narrator states that she fell. So, younger kids won't pick up on it. The plot is predictable. All fairy tales are, so I can't really fault it for that. It follows the procedure delightfully though. The cast is great and the mother played by Catherine O'Hara is priceless.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Stunningly beautiful
Penelope is wonderful! The character, the story, the film...all of it. The visuals are stunning and fabulous. As someone who is jaded about fairy tales, I was pleasantly surprised (though not too surprised) and I am glad that this is a very strong character and a good feminist role model (wedged amongst the many other typical story lines in Hollywood, no matter how well done). Not only is the story fantastic, the visuals and design of the film just blows me away. I watch it again and again sometimes just for the set! Her room, especially, fills me with admiration. It's not often I want to emulate a set from a film with such ardor and passion, but Penelope's...I do.

If you haven't watched it, watch it! :) If you haven't noticed the visuals, well start paying attention! :D

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Believe in yourself and your troubles will disappear
This is a modern classic fairytale about a curse that strikes a family and how it affects the first born daughter by giving her a pig shaped nose/snout. Penelope is the first born female in a long line of males in her family. Penelope has lived with the curse for almost 20 years and lived a sheltered existence behind the walls of her family mansion. Her family did this to keep her away from the press and from the whole world finding out about her. Her parents lied to the media that Penelope died in her infancy.

Anyway now 20 years later in order for Penelope to 'break the curse' and have a normal face she must MARRY another human. Unfortunately all the people who their parents try to find run away and some even crazily jump through the window when they see Penelope snouted face (which makes me feel very bad for her)! Everyone runs away except James McAvoy's character who is paid $5,000 by the media to get a picture of her and release it to the public. A romance starts building up between Penelope and McAvoy's character that the audience is cheering throughout for them to get married.

You will just have to watch the movie yourself to see if the curse is actually broken and if they end up together (I don't want to ruin the plot). Also on a final note you will love the part where Penelope runs away from home when things get real hard for her and she meets Resse Witherspoon's character at a bar. But the central message of the movie is that if you love yourself for who you are then anything is possible.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Absolutely adorable
This is one of the most adorable movies I have ever seen. Its a a modern day fantasy with a twist. James McAvoy and Christina Ricci are great! But Reese Witherspoon's charecter made me laugh.
