Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - For Those With Eyes to See and Ears to Hear
I loved this movie so much I had to own it. I can't get enough of it.
Every time I watch it, I see something more. The characters are so lovable & sympathetic. I liked Dianne Keaton before, but now I LOVE her! Here, she's become a kind of female Robin Hood. She addresses the human dilema of temptation. When you're desperate, & you see a sure thing opportunity staring you in the face, what would you do?
There are many things to be praised here in addition to a great story, great acting, great characters, great music, classic funny lines, & a wonderfully fun tone. But most of all, I like the quality of love amongst the characters. This isn't crime that's about meaness, hatefulness or backstabbing greed. This is about a partnership of average people trying to reclaim the American dream (just unfortunately through theft). But this pursuit of money is about love of family & friends. Many people have money problems, & no terribly deep loyalty to a rat race system, that traps them in quicksand. So, we observe, a little loot sharing goes a long way, to win them allies. There's even a nice subtle dig at the federal reserve system, such as, "Where ARE all the assets related to the paper?" Only one sentence, but for those in the know, what did the Fed (that isn't Federal) do with our silver & gold backed money? What loyalty do we really owe to them that have prospered at our expense? Again, not much explored, but implied.
This film is more about how good people are sometimes driven to survive in our musical chairs system, that's designed to always ex some unfortunate out of their seat. And of course, if this system can't keep us down one way, it calls out the big guns, the IRS.
But, love conquers all this time. It's something the system does not expect. Because the so called criminals give of themselves so generously, they wind up making themselves invincible. And that's what elevates this movie into something special, something beyond just comical & fun.
Again, it's not the theft that's the real roll model here, but the excitement of sudden great opportunity. The dream come true of windfalls of wealth, the joy of sharing with family & friends, & the luck that comes with great partners, & great love.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A nice TV movie would have been better
"Mad Money" would have been a better TV movie. The cast was excellent, but not enough laughts. The ending shows us Crime really pays, like Wall Street is telling us in real life Today.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - FUN, FUN, FUN!!!
A great cast delivers a fun, funny and suspenseful little movie about an upper middle-class couple that have fallen on their version of "hard times." Wifey (Diane Keaton) re-enters the workforce in order to help make ends meet....only to find that due to spending decades as a housewife, she is not qualified to do anything. Finally she lands a job at the Federal Reserve as a janitor...where she discovers, to her horror, that money that is deemed "old" is taken out of circulation and shredded. It doesn't take long for Keaton to devise a plan to basically steal money that is to be thrown away anyway....and the plan takes off without much of a hitch after enlisting the help of two of her coworkers (Queen Latifah and Katie Holmes). All goes well until the husband of Holmes starts trading large sums of money over the internet...suddenly, the threesome are the target of a federal investigation. Will the three do time in the federal pen for stealing the "trash?
Uproariously funny, most will enjoy this cute "chick flick" starring three veteran actresses that seem to have tons of chemistry...definitely worth seeing.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Surprisingly complex characterization
I went into this movie expecting nothing but a fun chick-flick with a bit of suspense and action, and got it - plus a little side of mystery. The main character is not as straightforward as she first seems, and that pretty much makes the movie a notch above a lot of fluffy chick-flicks. It makes her more than a two-dimensional cardboard cutout, and gives her real personality. It also helps that all three of the main actresses did a phenomenal job with their roles; I give the acting two thumbs up.

As far as the plot goes, yes, it's very farfetched and unbelievable (as in, don't try this yourself), but for me that doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the movie. The only slight problem was the inability to judge the passing of time - at the end of the movie it's mentioned that three years have passed, but without that one comment we have no idea how long it'd been. It's only a small complaint because it's not terribly crucial to the storyline whether it's been three months or three years.

Otherwise it was a very fun and well-acted comedy/action movie that I think most people would enjoy. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for some mindless entertainment.
